The striped trapdoor pond snail is a much rarer species than the common giant trapdoor snail...it has a beautiful yellow and black/brown striped shell.

These snails are juvenilles at approximately 1cm in diameter.

Trapdoor snails are native to European waters and can be found in both rivers and ponds. 

As the name suggests, trapdoor snails have a trap door at the entrance to their shell which is one of their defining characteristics.   The shell of the giant European trapdoor is conical and very large.  Adults can grow as much as 2.0 inches in length.

They have an unusual method of reproduction.  The females give birth to 6-10 live young.  The snails are classified as livebearing.

These snails are easy to care for in the aquarium or pond.  They will not eat live plants and should be fed a varied diet of pellets and fresh cooked greens.  Snailstrong liquid calcium will also help to keep their shells in tip top condition.

Due to the eventual adult size of this snail, it is recommended that one snail is given at least 2.5 gallons of aquarium water.
