All snails and other aquatic invertebrates require high amounts of calcium in the water to build their strong shells or exoskeleton. If there is not enough calcium present in the water the invertebrates shell or exoskeleton will become weak, brittle and prone to pitting. Pitting, in severe cases, can often lead to the death. It can also look pretty unsightly!
