Product Information

The Great Ramshorn snail (Planorbis corneus) is so called for its Ram’s horn shaped shell. Ramshorn snails are a highly popular choice for the outdoor pond as they do not eat live plants, but scavenge on uneaten fish food and rotting plant matter. Through their activity, they play an important recycling role in the natural ecosystem of the pond.

The most common colour for the Great Ramshorn is brown. The rare Blue Ramshorn is the same species but an unusual blue colour variant. This makes it a popular choice for coldwater aquariums and ponds.

This snail is easily bred, depositing numerous jelly egg cases on plants, rocks and other hard surfaces.

Ramshorns have a wide temperature tolerance range, 5-26 Degrees Celcius and are able to overwinter in a pond. Their preferred temperature range is 10-20 Degrees.

Feeding - Algae, algae & variety wafers, shrimp & bloodworm pellets, cooked leafy green vegetables

Health Additives - SnailStrong Liquid Calcium.

pH - 7.0 - 8.5 (less than 7.0 and shells corrode)

Preferable Temperature - 10-20 Degrees Celcius
